Interlock weft technique is used to achieve the two different wefts to be woven side by side. These saris are simple and very light in weight.
The origin of Narayanpet sarees date back to 1630 ADwhen Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Marathi emperor, was travelling across the Narayanpet region. He set up camp at Narayanpet and when he continued with his travels, left behind a few weavers who started the production of the saree.
These sarees have a distinct style of a patterned border and a simple pallu. Owing to the blessings of the goddess resident in the local temple, temple design border is woven in most of the sarees. In 2012, these sarees got the geographical identification tag.
